    • Moe Rvnn 5 years ago

      @Rk that’s correct because urine is related to the kidneys

      Wait, was it about ions or water? I thought it was about ions (so put urine and kidneys, sweat and skin) but everyone at my school said it was water

    At 1:14:21, you have put 7 zeros after the 1, it should be 6 and that is 1 million, NOT 10 million. Cheers.

    • Science and Maths by Primrose Kitten 5 years ago

      +Reg F Harding good spot! Thanks!

    • Mr Reg F Harding MATH & SCIENCE 5 years ago

      You are welcome. Good video by the way and apart from saying stine instead of sine, I think that was the only other ‘error’ in a video over 2 hours long, which is pretty good going. You did say 6 zeros by the way and then wrote 7 or is it the ‘C’ cm? and then, due to doing a video of such length, (not a criticism at all), just, being human, did not notice/misread Cm for 0m.

      Well done. I do really like your videos and I can see how much effort you put into everything and so quickly too. Impressive! 🙂

      I’m joking, by the way, about how to work it out. I think you’d need numbers to begin with, but then you’d add 2 and 3 (5) and then work from there.

    • AskJT 5 years ago

      Vera M. They have dropped a LOT of subjects from A-Level (higher, harder education) to GCSE; the government only decided this a few years ago, so it’s been a mad rush for a lot of schools to cram all of the old subjects in, _along with_ the new stuff too.

    Note that 1000000 is 1,000,000, not 10,000,000 (as you wrote 10,000,00, you explained that 1m_cubed is 10 million cm_cubed, it was easy to miss typo style error, as your “cm” the letter “c” looked very much like a zero because the background graph is making it a bit fuzzy to see).

    21:43 – error, 0.083333…. is 1/12, not 0.83333…..
    Not saying this stuff ain’t helpful though, really, thanks.

    P.S I think, rather than memorising them, working out fractions of recurring decimals is better.
    i.e 0.083333….. to fraction
    -> x = 0.083333…..
    -> 100x = 8.333…..
    -> 1000x = 83.333….
    -> 900x = 75 (subtract the previous step, from the one before)
    -> x = 75/900
    -> x = 3/36 (divide by 25)
    -> x = 1/12
    //Just saying, but I do think this is a far better method

  • Two Shows 4 years ago

    why would you post a video about maths nerdsssssssssss

  • TheUltimateMarioFan 4 years ago

    43:17 Um. I did elimination but got totally different to you Primrose. I did times the first equation by three and the second one by two leaving me with 6x + 3y = 21 and 6x – 2y = 16. I eliminated the xs and got the answer y = 5. I substituted it into both equations and got x = 1. Have I done this wrong?

    • George Dolley 4 years ago

      The best way to test if you’ve done it wrong or not is to feed it back into the equation.

      If x=1 and y=5, then 2x+y = 2*1+5 = 2+5 = 7 and 3x-y = 3*1-5 = 3-5 = -2 =/= 8

      The second equation should equal 8, but with your numbers it equals -2, so your numbers are incorrect.

      Your mistake here was in how you eliminated your equations: you needed to subtract the second equation from the first equation, and I believe you got mixed up and added (don’t forget that subtracting a subtraction is an addition).

      What you should have done from that point was the following:

      1) 6x + 3y = 21
      2) 6x -2y =16

      line 1) – line 2); 6x – 6x = 0x
      3y – – 2y = 3y + 2y = 5y
      21 – 16 = 5

      Therefore line 1) – line 2) equals 0x + 5y = 5, so 5y = 5, so y = 1. From here, you can substitute that into the equation to find the value of x, which is 3.

  • Muhammed Patel 4 years ago

    what do you need to learn for paper 1

    • Warrior6911 4 years ago

      Non calculator topics, anything can come up in the papers there are no specific chapters like Science

  • Kabilan Thesingarajah 4 years ago

    I believe that at 31:50 you stated that 6 root 6 / 2 root 6 = 3 root 6 which is incorrect. Putting the values in a calculator proves this. 6 root 6 / 2 = 3 root 6. By your method 6 root 6 / 1 root 6 would equal 6 root 6, effectively proving root 6 ( and any other number square rooted) is equal to 1 which is not correct. I hope this helps.

    around 1 hour 21 mins it goes over compound interest. an easier way to work it out on a calculator is, for example 4 year compound interest of 4% on 500£, to do this all you would need to do is 500×1.04 to the power of 4. 1 being = to 100%

  • Chloe Carpenter 4 years ago

    For dividing fractions rememberKCF (keep change flip).
    1. You keep the first fraction as it is, you leave it alone.
    2. You flip the symbol so the opposite of divide is multiplication.
    Then you flip the last fraction so 1/2 would become 2/1.

    Eg. 1/2 divided by 3/5 would be
    1/3 multiplied by 5/3 which would be 5/3 following the miltiplication rule (multiplying across the top and multiplying across the bottom)

    at 19.00 maybe there was one mistake ..lowest value is -5 not -5.5 ..greater than -5 is -4.9 ..in that inequality greater than or equal -5 we take -5 as alowest value ..Could anyone have another opinion please?

  • For all 4 years ago

    at 31.37 the result is 3 not 3 square root 6..right or not

    • Haseeb Ejaz 4 years ago

      I think your right saying her answer is wrong, to divide a surd you must divide separately. The answer to the actual question is 3, and when you divide 6 by 2 you get 3 and then the surds square root 6 by square root 5 it gives square root 1. So overall we get an answer of 3 times square root 1, which is 3. If you want to make sure your right, you could make the surd into just a square root rather than a number then a square root. In this question it would be 6 square root 6 turning into square root 36 times 6, which is 216. then we do the same with the numerator, returning a fraction which gives square root 9 which is 3. Hope that helped.

  • Aerin Kim 3 years ago

    at 18.45 -5.5 rounds up to -6 but x value is either -5 or above. how can -5.5 be considered the lowest possible value when it is out of bounds?

    • Sudorsu 3 years ago

      Because x is either less than or equal to 5 but 4 is strictly less than 4 meaning it isn’t allowed to be able to round to 4. However -5 is equal to or less than meaning it is able to round to 5.

    – Print an exam paper.

    – Make sure a friend does this as well.
    – Give your paper to your friend and take his/hers.

    Well this is refreshing. I did O-Levels in the ’80s (got a B in Maths) so it’s traditional for me to look at modern GCSEs and moan about ‘dumbing down’. Yet 20 minutes into this video I have to hit Google to answer my question “wtf is a surd?”. The answer involves irrational numbers, something else 16-year-old me didn’t have to wrap his head around.

    This pleases me.

      Hi Staxar, this video is a short summary and can never cover everything in a much depth as you go into in class (full explanation https://youtu.be/K6d4oOq-pmU ) If you want to make sure you’ve covered all the bits you need the I suggest you watch this in combination with using my FREE revision guide available on my website https://www.primrosekitten.com/collections I’ve rewritten the specification and it clearly shows you everything you need to know.

    At 20:41, wouldn’t it be easier to use the commutative law? What I mean by this is:
    2√5 * 3√5
    = 2 * √5 * 3 * √5
    = 2 * 3 * √5 * √5
    = 6 * 5
    = 30
    Just seems easier than going through the whole process of making all the numbers into surds.

    The biggest reason for the maths exam being hard was because of the way the questions were worded which completely confused me.
    I spent more time trying to read the questions and figurie out which topic it was about, rather than answering it.

    Hey, I was wondering whether if you were to just watch the video, and utilise past papers alongside this video alone, you could effectively do great in maths. Does this video scratch the surface of the edexcel specification, or would this information said be enough to do well in maths, and revising from the revision guide wouldn’t be necessary as much.
    Thank you.

    • Madi 3 years ago

      nope it’s right, because it isn’t 9 and 12, she redid it as 8 and 12 🙂

    • Madi 3 years ago

      I think so

    • Madi 3 years ago

      because you have to count all the numbers after the decimal point, meaning it would count 7,9,1,4,0,0,0 which is 2.7 x 10^7

    My method for factorise ax2 + bx + c equations may be easier for some to understand.

    2x^2 + x – 6
    Multiply a and c : 2 * -6 = -12
    Find two factors of this that add to make the value of b and substitute : here it would be 4x and -3x so substitute this and get 2x^2 + 4x -3x -6
    Then simplify first and second half separately : 2x (x + 2) -3(x + 2) you will know if you’ve done this correctly as the two brackets are the same
    Then place the numbers outside the bracket into a bracket next to the original bracket and it is solved : (2x -3) (x + 2)

      Abi Smith how long does it take at 1.75 might watch it in the morning loool

      @Riya dc should take around 68 minutes i think, this is also including the higher parts so if your foundation its even shorter.

    I love how in the comments you see each generation of GCSE students go by and you realise that they were struggling just as you are and everybody goes through the same thing. Those past students are doing their A-Levels right now. It’s crazy.

      Not sure how this came up in my recommendations now, but I watched this back in 2017 to do last minute revision for my GCSE’s and am now going to uni next month. These videos were an absolute lifesaver.
