Converting Between Grams and Moles

Published on June 23, 2014 by

We'll learn how to convert back and forth between grams and moles. For each example, we'll do it two ways. First, a thinking through it approach, that shows how you multiply moles by the molar mass to convert from moles to grams, and how you divide grams by the molar mass to convert from grams to moles. Second, we'll use a conversion factor method where we write units based on molar mass information, and set up fractions to correctly cancel the units. For part two, check out the video http://youtu.be/0RXB8xNmJNM

Great video demo. Very clear. Now my question is related to some biological molecule. For example the cytokine IL-2. If we know the molecular weight of the molecule (15.5 kDa) how would we use this info to calculate moles of IL-2? Can the answer be used to calculate the MOLAR ratio with another molecule that binds to IL-2? An example would be an IgG antibody that specifically binds to IL-2; the molecular weight of IgG is 153kDa. Thanks in advance!

    (B) 1kg of FeS2

    Ang Fe = 55.84

    FeS2

    *UNIVERSITY* *IN* *A* *NUT* *SHELL*

I wish I could just pay you my tuition for my class because my professor is helpful but not very great at breaking it down for new chem students. It’s like they have understood the concepts so in-depth for so long that they don’t really try to break it down for new students that are still processing it all and making it make sense to them. They just say for one hour learn this, if not oh well go read the chapter. After reading the chapter meet me during my office hours for further help. Go to the office to meet the professor and it’s just the class lesson repeated 2.0. You leave feeling like you understand but vaguely. Then the next day of class more information is dumped on top of you. You get behind because you do not fully understand the previous lesson and do not have a good enough foundation to continue to move to the next level of applying more variables. Thus, the start of a slippery slope the inevitable “C” or all-out failure.

I thank the acadmic gods for YouTube educators like you. Bless you sir.

If the number 58.44 is coming from combination of two moles (one for na and one for cl), so why you supposed that the result (58.44) is one mole?, is it not supposed to be 2 moles.?, then total moles will be 2 *2.182 =4.34 moles, I calculated by all possible ways and individually, by atoms numbers, by mass number, by individual proton weight amu, and every time it gives me same result, 4.34 moles. Double your result.
