Cuboids and Cubes
Cuboids
A cuboid is a shape with 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices.
Volume of a Cuboid
Volume = Length x Height x Breadth
Length = Volume / (Height x Breadth)
Height = Volume / (Length x Breadth)
Breadth = Volume / (Length x Height)
Example:
Length = 14cm
Height = 6cm
Breadth = 3cm
Find the volume of this cuboid.
Volume = L x H x B
Volume = 14cm x 6cm x 3cm = 252cm³
Cubes
A cube is a cuboid which has all sides of the same length.
Height = Length = Breadth, in a cube
Therefore, calculating the perimeter, surface area and volume of this cuboid is different.
PERIMETER OF A CUBE
Perimeter = 12 x Side
SURFACE AREA OF A CUBE
Surface Area = 6 x Side²
VOLUME OF A CUBE
Volume = Side³
Example:
Find the perimeter of a cube with sides of 4cm in length.
Perimeter of a cube = 12 x Side
Side = 4cm
Perimeter = 12 x 4cm = 48cm
